A Farmhouse Tour

Well, no longer do we live here--our farm season ended after three years (four summers). But now we have this album to remind us of all the fun and all the work and how blessed we were to live upon 4 acres in the countryside for a portion of our lives together.

The Sleeping Porch where I spent many sunny days.

Hydrangea bush at a corner of the porch.

Step into the front door and you'll be inside the living room:

And just beyond, through the pocket doors, is the dining room.

Keep going and you'll find the kitchen.

(We later replaced the gold flooring in this photo and in the pantry.)

Be sure to note the groovy orange counter tops. heh. We'd planned to change those, but never did!

To the right, here's our baking pantry, built-in cabinets are on the left.

Now here's a quick peek at the downstairs master bedroom, which is awfully small for a 'master' anything.

Now, back in the kitchen we'll take the closet stairs...

... to this middle room--

... and then to the upstairs guest room:

(Loved its coziness.)

Then back through the middle room to The Little Blue Room. Never did make it a half-bath as we'd planned  (oh the plans of mice and men. heh.)

Now back down the stairs, out the back door....take a long-ish walk...

... and you'll step into the back meadow, home of wildflowers, rabbits, garter snakes and lots of tiny frogs and toads.

Back closer to the house you'll find the garden.

Beside it, the barn and patio.

Our barn loft.

Behind the barn is the Bunny Pasture, where bunnies hop and frogs jump out of the way of my lawnmower. Well, usually they make it in time...

In front of the garden, the orchard. (Photo taken before the barn makeover.)

On the sunny side of the house.

Back on the north side, the driveway, which I enjoyed pretending was a country road while I strolled to the mailbox.

And the huge crab apple tree outside the bay window where we hung birdfeeders and where we watched the birds shove each other away from the food. :)

I hope you enjoyed your visit! Our three years there were an adventure, our 'farming season,' and we'll always be grateful God gave us our farm days.

This is a great idea! A photo blog of your new home! It's a great communication tool and also... a keepsake for yourself.

I'm sure things will change, as time goes on. And then, you will have 'now' and 'then.' :-)

Location, location, location... If one progresses as it sounds, then the master bedroom is at the back of the house. But I'd have thought that kitchen would be at the back. No real reason... just thought...

But just for the idea of layout, is the bedroom perhaps to the right {or left} of the kitchen? So it's also 'in the back' of the house? And you have 2 beds in there?

If the bathroom off the bedroom, is attached... Is there another door to it? As in, when your mom comes to visit, will she be using that bathroom also? Or is there another one, upstairs?

-hehhhh- And you _thought_ that having a pic blog would make everything simple hu? :-) You didn't factor in my..."where is everything" nature, now did you? ,-)))))

Thanks, Everyone, for your comments and compliments! I appreciate them.

To answer Marie-Nanci's questions...The kitchen and bathroom are at the very back of the house. There is a door on the left of the kitchen to the bathroom.

The dining room is in the middle of the house and there is a door on the left to the bedroom. The door you see in the bedroom photo leads to the bathroom, also. So the bathroom has two doors, making this one of those houses which you can walk through 'in a circle.'

My mom will be staying downstairs on our sleeping porch--if it's not too cold by then. I'd love to have her stay in our guest room upstairs (I love it up in that room) but I hate to think of her going up and down those stairs. That would make me too nervous.

I hope this makes things clearer... Because of your questions I will probably change a bit of the wording on my photos. :)

Thanks again, All! Blessings, Debra

You'll have to let us know how the apples are. I was hoping they would fruit last year (having been planted in 2005) but they didn't. We did get pears off one tree last year. But I was really looking forward to the apples - especially the Stayman Winesap and the Criterion - sigh. The Pawpaws look like they are really taking off this year - they were tiny twigs when we planted them. Expect them to take a few more years to fruit. The mulberry is yummy, if you can get to the fruit before the birds do!

Debra. Thanks for the sweet comments. Your farm is beautiful. What a wonderful place it must be for walking, thinking, dreaming, and living your life. My fantasy is to have a farm like yours someday. Your decor is just my style, too. So pretty.
